I.O.I Comeback 2026: Everything You Need to Know About 'I.O.I: LOOP' and the 10th Anniversary Reunion

I.O.I Comeback 2026: Everything You Need to Know About 'I.O.I: LOOP' and the 10th Anniversary Reunion

If you've been anywhere near K-pop social media lately, you already know: I.O.I is coming back. After nine years apart, nine of the original eleven members are reuniting for their 10th anniversary — and for fans who watched Produce 101 back in 2016, this one hits differently. The I.O.I LOOP album drops on May 19, 2026, and it's already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about K-pop comebacks of the year.

Whether you were glued to every episode of Produce 101 or you've only recently discovered I.O.I through the members' solo careers, this guide covers everything: who they are, what happened, and why the 2026 reunion feels like a full-circle moment almost nobody expected.

The Story of I.O.I: From a Reality Show to K-Pop History

To understand why this reunion matters so much, you have to go back to early 2016. Produce 101 — Mnet's landmark survival reality show — put 101 female trainees from 46 different agencies on screen and let the public vote for their 11 favorites. The format was unlike anything K-pop had done before: instead of companies deciding who debuted, fans had direct power. The show was electric, and the group it produced, I.O.I, became an instant phenomenon.

They debuted on May 4, 2016, with the mini album Chrysalis and the single "Dream Girls (Pick Me)" — a song so embedded in K-pop memory that just hearing the opening notes still gives long-time fans chills. The group was always meant to be temporary, a one-year project. But what they accomplished in those eight months — back-to-back hits, sold-out performances, a devoted fanbase — left a mark that lasted long after their disbandment on January 31, 2017.

Produce 101 went on to spawn multiple follow-up seasons and inspired similar formats across Asia. But the original I.O.I remained special. They represented a moment when the K-pop industry and its fans were figuring out together what participatory fandom could look like.

The I.O.I Members in 2026: Where Are They Now?

One of the most remarkable things about this reunion is just how successful every member has become. When I.O.I disbanded, these nine women were still relative newcomers. Nine years later, several of them are among the biggest names in Korean entertainment.

Jeon Somi (Main vocal, Center) needs little introduction. Now signed to The Black Label — a YG subsidiary — she's built one of the most distinctive solo careers in K-pop, from "Birthday" (2019) through to "Fast Forward" (2023). She also co-wrote the lyrics to the LOOP title track, which feels right.

Kim Sejeong (Main vocal) made the jump from idol to Hallyu actress with serious credibility. If you've watched School 2017 or A Business Proposal, you know exactly what she's capable of. She also continues to release solo music.

Chungha (Main dancer, Sub-vocal) became one of K-pop's most acclaimed solo dance-and-pop artists, earning a reputation for performance quality that consistently impresses even outside the K-pop bubble.

Yoo Yeonjung (Main vocal) is still active as a member of WJSN, and her vocal range remains one of the most technically impressive in the industry.

Choi Yoojung and Kim Doyeon have continued their individual careers at Fantagio after Weki Meki officially disbanded in August 2024, with both branching out into acting and modeling. Jung Chaeyeon and Kim Sohye have both carved out strong acting careers in K-dramas. Lim Nayoung (Leader) has balanced solo music with acting.

Two original members — Kang Mina and Zhou Jieqiong — are not participating due to individual scheduling conflicts, bringing the official reunion count to 9 members.

I.O.I: LOOP — The Album, Track by Track

The album is titled I.O.I : LOOP, their 3rd Mini Album, releasing on May 19, 2026 at 6:00 PM KST. A pre-release digital single and YouTube live stream landed on May 4 — the exact 10th anniversary of their debut. That timing wasn't accidental.

Title Track: 갑자기 (Suddenly)

The lead single "갑자기 (Suddenly)" is a synth-pop track that, according to the team, captures the sudden wave of emotion that hits you when you reconnect with someone after a long time. Jeon Somi co-wrote the lyrics, and you can feel that personal touch — the song doesn't try to be a banger, it tries to be honest. There's a dynamic build in the second half that reportedly works beautifully in live performance.

Track 6 is the one that's been making fans emotional before the album even dropped. "웃으며 안녕 (Goodbye with a Smile)" uses archived vocal recordings from I.O.I's original 2016 debut activities — woven into a new ballad produced by Park Jin Young. It's described as the emotional closer of the album, and it sounds like exactly that.

2026 I.O.I Concert Tour: LOOP

The album doesn't come alone. The 2026 I.O.I Concert Tour: LOOP kicks off in Seoul with three consecutive nights at Jamsil Indoor Stadium (May 29, 30, 31) — one of the most iconic venues in Korean live music. From there, the tour heads to:

  • Bangkok — Idea Live, Bravo BKK (June 6, 2026)
  • Hong Kong — Asia World-Expo, Hall 10 (June, date TBD)
